I Made it All the Way Home!

That’s kind of a weird title, isn’t it? I should explain, since we haven’t talked in awhile. About a month ago, I got a bike to ride to work and to the grappling gym. Now, I haven’t ridden a bike in years. Seriously, we’re talking middle school maybe — back in the 80’s! But it’s true what they say about how you never forget. (Thank goodness!)
It’s about 3 miles to work, another mile and a half to the grappling school, and about 4.5 miles home. Uphill most of the way home. I wanted to die that first week. And the second. And the third. My legs hurt. My tailbone hurt. I couldn’t breathe. And I had to stop and walk a lot. Felt pretty silly walking my bicycle up the bike trail, I promise you. But it had to be done. I’ll tell lots more about my experiences on the bike because there’s fun stuff to share.
But tonight, I just wanted to check in and say — I have now ridden all the way home from work (3 miles) without stopping to walk — TWICE! And tonight, I made it about 75% of the way home from the grappling gym (4.5 miles) before having to walk; and the walk was only a short way. Mind you, I tried a new way home tonight that took me a bit out of the way when I made a wrong turn, too. So next time, I will probably make it further.
I am pretty flipping excited, I tell you what. . .
